WORLD RELIGION

Another cultural highlight is the Sigiriya Rock (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site), also known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". A rock fortress was built here at a height of 200 metres. At Sigiriya, you will also find the "Cloud Maidens" - rock paintings that have been preserved for centuries.

Also magical is the town of Polonnaruwa, which was the capital of a powerful kingdom almost a thousand years ago. The magnificent statues and constructions such as "Gal Vihara" bear witness to this time.

CULTURAL HERITAGE

One of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country is the royal city of Kandy, which lies in the middle of the central mountains.
The main attraction is certainly the Temple of the Tooth, where a canine tooth of Buddha is kept- The temple is also the starting point of the traditional annual "Perahera", a magnificent historical procession with elephant parades that takes place in July and August. Kandy is also famous for its "Kandy dancers".

HISTORICAL

Discover the fertile highlands of Sri Lanka as a contrasting change.
A typical train ride along the lush green tea plantations and mountain landscapes in Nunu Oya is ideal for this. The so-called City of Light, Nuwara Eliya, also impressively illustrates the history and development of the country. It is also nicknamed "Little England", because many buildings are reminiscent of the time of the old "Empire", when the British used this area to grow tea in the moderate climate. Today, the region is still considered the main cultivation area of the famous Ceylon tea.

COUNTRY AND PEOPLE

On our special "Land & People Jeep Safaris" we take you to meet the locals and bring you closer to traditional crafts, kitchen secrets but also the lifestyle off the beaten tracks. Discover the way of life on the seacoast and the closely related tradition of fishing. Negombo offers precious insights and at the same time also shows the remains of the Dutch colonial period. Other historical sights are also the Galle Dutch Fort, a fortress on the south coast or "Mahiyangana", a place where the royal temple is located and which is also home to the Weddas. They are the indigenous people of Sri Lanka and lead an impressive, minimalist lifestyle.
